St. Martin’s Day is a celebrated beloved tradition for children and families in Germany. The holiday honors St. Martin of Tours, known for his compassion and generosity, particularly the legend of him sharing his cloak with a needy man to keep warm on a freezing night.
Laternelaufen (Walking with Lanterns) is a German tradition for the time of November 11 or later. The children walk along streets holding colorful self-made lanterns while singing traditional songs.
Our Childrens’ Program focuses on the aspect of sharing, singing “Martinisingen” and the Festival of Lights. This year, the Court Revelers, a Madrigal choral group will entertain as Father Christmas lights the Christmas tree.
Children will use lighted lanterns to help Father Christmas and can be dressed as the Christkind,
St Nicolas, Fairies, Frosty, Elves, Krampus, and the Grinch.
Judging will be by Diane Bolles and Alexis Lombard, the current Miss North Star!
Prizes awarded!
Authentic German Lanterns may be purchased at the German American Imports Booth.
