We’re extremely sad to announce this year’s Excelsior Christkindlsmarkt has been cancelled due to the rapid escalation of COVID-19 cases in Minnesota and surrounding states in recent weeks, and Gov. Tim Walz’s order last night prohibiting outdoor social gatherings for four weeks.

We worked overtime to make this event happen safely, realizing in many ways it is more needed in 2020 than previous years. Thousands were planning on it; so many were happy and excited to be able to experience something fun, traditional and memory making. Yet in recent days, our planning committee grew increasingly concerned about public safety as Covid-19 cases spiked in Minnesota and surrounding states, and we support the Governor’s action here.

While there will no longer be an actual outdoor event this year, we are developing “Chriskindlsmarkt Live,” a virtual experience that will include an online marketplace highlighting many of 2020’s vendors; entertainment including singers, Father Christmas, Princess Divas and others; and live stream experiences including “llama-Cam.” Christkindlsmarkt Live will be available at ExcelsiorChristmas.com beginning on Saturday, Nov. 28. Programming details and times will be provided in upcoming days.

I can’t thank enough those who helped us as we planned to produce this year’s event, especially our sponsors, vendors, volunteers and state and city officials. While Excelsior Christkindlsmarkt wont’ take place this year, what it’s all about – the joy and spirit of Christmas – lives on.
